East Dominates West 58-6 in Division I All-Star Game

In Saturday’s 8-Man DI All-Star Game at Trojan Field in Beloit, the DI East All-Stars took control of the game early and never looked back as they controlled the trenches and dominated the West in a 58-6 victory.

The East struck first, taking their first possession 67 yards in just four plays.  On the second play from scrimmage, a 52-yard pass from Cade Miller of West Elk to Jacob Burdine of Solomon set up great field position.  The East finished the drive with a 6-yard TD run by Logan/Palco’s David Thompson,  The run failed as the East led 6-0 just 1:37 into the game.

The West was forced to punt on their first drive.  The East then just needed two plays to go 51 yards, as the drive was capped by another touchdown run from Thompson.  The East led 12-0 after another failed 2-point attempt.

On the next drive for the West, Riley Allen of Logan/Palco intercepted a pass from West QB Maverick Green of Rawlins County and returned it 33 yards to the West 37.  The ensuing possession for the East took just two plays to go 51 yards and score.  Miller ran in a TD from 36 yards out.  Bennington’s J.J. Allen caught the 2-point pass to put the East up 20-0 with 4:24 remaining in the 1st.  That would be the score after 1.

The East struck first in the 2nd quarter as well.  Just nine seconds in, Burlingame’s Tristan Lee sacked Green in the end zone for a safety to give the East a 22-0 lead.

Three drives stalled from there, but on the 2nd offensive possession of the 2nd quarter for the East, they hit paydirt again.  After a short West punt set the East up at the West 12, Thompson ran for his third touchdown of the day, this time from 12 yards out.  He also added the two point conversion to give the East a 30-0 lead with 8:28 remaining in the half.

As the West was being controlled on the offensive line by the East’s down lineman Lee, Anthony Albertini of St. Paul, Jake Thompson of Burlingame, Andrew Capsey of Solomon and others, the West had to punt again on their next drive.

Taking over at the West 29, the East used seven plays capped by a three-yard touchdown run by Osborne’s Denton Schurr.  Schurr added the two-point conversion to extend the East lead to 38-0 with 2:26 left in the half, as the East ended up heading to the locker room with that lead.

The West finally got something going on their first drive of the 2nd half.  They used 5:24 seconds to go 65 yards in 13 plays.  The drive was completed with a 2-yard touchdown run from Hoxie’s Chris Cox.  The East lead was at 38-6 after a failed PAT.

The East wasted no time responding.  On the first play of their next possession, Miller scored his second rushing TD of the day, going 65 yards for the score.  He added a 2-point pass to Allen to put the East up 46-6 with 6:24 left in the 3rd.

In a tough situation, the West tried a fake punt on fourth down on their next possession, but the East wasn’t fooled, taking over at the West 37 after a stop.  Five plays later, Miller hit Allen on a 1-yard TD pass to give the East a 52-6 lead.

The East scored one more time in the 4th on a 20-yard TD pass from St. Paul’s Braven Born to Colton Noonan from Burlingame.  That was the final score of the game in the 58-6 win for the East.  The 52-point win was the largest margin of victory in 8-Man All-Star Game history.  With the victory, the East has now narrowed the gap in the overall series count, as the West leads the Division I series 10-8.
